Tottenham Hotspur are looking to shake up their midfield.
According to Sami Mokbel of the UK’s Daily Mail, Spurs are targeting Connor Gallagher and Douglas Lewis to replace Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who is likely to leave for Atletico Madrid.
Atletico have now identified Hojbjerg as their top target, according to Mokbel, and the two sides are in talks over a possible transfer. Tottenham were initially unwilling to sell Hojbjerg, but have recently stated that they would sell him if the offer is right.
They are already looking for a replacement. “Negotiations are still slow, but Tottenham are looking for a replacement for Joivier and expect him to join Atletico in the coming weeks,” Mokbel explained.
The two players mentioned as possible replacements are the aforementioned Gallagher and Luiz. Gallagher is a former Chelsea player who fulfilled his potential on loan at Crystal Palace in the 2021-22 season. During his time at Palace, he proved himself to be a tactical asset with his high level of activity and involvement in the attack, making an impact on both sides of the ball, especially in the attacking third. However, his return to Chelsea last season was a disappointment compared to his time at Palace.
Lewis is the heart of Aston Villa’s midfield. Lewis, who made 40 appearances for the ‘Man of Steel’ last season, is also a very active player and has excellent dribbling and passing skills, which allows him to carry the ball forward or play it into the box. In many ways, he is similar to Joaquim, but he is more technically gifted than Joaquim. 먹튀검증
What they have in common is their work rate. This shows that Tottenham’s new manager, Enze Postecoglou, wants a midfielder with a high energy level. Both Gallagher and Lewis are the type of players that Postecoglou would want.
However, in the case of Lewis, it’s unclear if Villa would allow him to leave. Lewis is the heart of Villa’s defense, and Villa will be looking to strengthen this summer as they look to go one better next season. “It remains to be seen if Unai Emery will sell him,” Mokbel said.
