Having watched Son Heung-min (Tottenham Hotspur) come of age, Peru’s 39-year-old veteran striker Paolo Guerrero (Laskinglove) is looking to return to the national team.
The Peruvian national soccer team, led by head coach Juan Reynoso, held a press conference before their first June A match against South Korea at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at the Busan Asiad Main Stadium.
Peru, ranked 21st in the FIFA rankings, will play two exhibition matches against South Korea and Japan in June.
Speaking at the press conference, Reynoso said, “I’m happy to be here for the first time. I respect Korea. They are a good team that went to the World Cup. It’s going to be a good game,” Reynoso said.
Reynoso is also keeping an eye on the return of veteran striker Paolo Guerrero to the squad.
Guerrero joined Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich from Peru in 2002 and enjoyed a long career in Hamburg. He has 47 goals and 26 assists in 161 Bundesliga games.
His return to the national team came eight months after a home game against Chile in October 2021 in a South American qualifier for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He is a member of the Century Club with 39 goals in 107 A-match appearances.
Notably, Guerrero played for Hamburg from 2006 to the summer of 2012, where he watched Son Heung-min grow up. 스포츠토토
Son played for Hamburg’s first team from 2010 to 2013, scoring 20 goals and three assists in 78 appearances for the club, and was once ranked among the club’s top 11 players of all time by German media.
Reynoso said of Guerrero’s selection, “He has a good chance of returning to the starting lineup. He’s been away from the national team for a long time, but he’s back and it’s a fresh start. He’s working with his teammates and I’m looking forward to it. We’ll have to see how he trains today, but I expect something amazing. I’m happy for him and support him in his new beginning.”
