Baseball’s Hanwha Eagles snapped a five-game losing streak at Jamsil Stadium behind a dazzling performance from Moon Dong-ju.
Hanwha won its 2023 Baseball World Series opener against the top-ranked LG Twins at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul on Wednesday, 2-1, behind a stellar performance by Moon Dong-ju, who pitched seven and a third innings of five-hit ball with five strikeouts and one run, and a game-winning two-run double by rookie Moon Hyun-bin.
In his final appearance of the first half, Moon tied his career high for pitches in a game (108) and picked up his sixth win.
After striking out Hong Chang-ki and Kim Hyun-soo in the first inning to start the game with a triple play, Moon gave up a single to Oh Ji-hwan in the second and a double to Hong Chang-ki in the third.
However, he struck out the next batter to keep the LG offense scoreless. 메이저토토사이트
In the sixth inning, he gave up a single to Shin Min-jae in right-center, but was saved by an accurate throw from catcher Choi Jae-hoon, who prevented Shin from stealing second base.
The deciding game came in the eighth inning.
Moon Dong-ju gave up a double to Moon Bo-kyung, a walk to Park Hae-min, and a single behind the plate to Shin Min-jae, handing the baton to Kim Bum-soo with the bases loaded and the game on the line.
Kim Bum-soo caught Hong Chang-ki’s infield grounder to trade one run and one out.
When Kim Bum-soo got Kim Hyun-soo to ground out to second base with the bases loaded, Moon Dong-joo, who was in the dugout, clapped enthusiastically.
Closer Park Sang-won shut down LG’s rally in the ninth inning and helped Moon Dong-joo win the game.
Moon, batting fifth and playing center field, started the inning with a cool double to chase LG ace Casey Kelly.
With runners on first and second after Kim In-hwan singled to right and Noh Si-hwan singled to left-center, Moon sent both runners home with a double that landed in right field.
Kelly pitched the next six scoreless innings before a single and a bad at-bat cost him his fifth loss of the season (sixth win).
