Tottenham’s new manager, Enzi Postecoglou, has made his first appearance.
Postecoglou held his first press conference at Tottenham on Tuesday (ET). The main topic of interest was the future of Harry Kane.
German giants Bayern Munich have made a second offer for Kane. After their first offer of €70 million was rejected, they made a second offer to Tottenham for a base fee of €80 million with options. Kane’s contract with Tottenham ends next June.
“Kane is one of the best strikers in the world and I want him to stay,” said Postecoglou. “I will introduce myself to him and present my vision, and I just want to understand what his vision is and try to be successful. The conversation with him will be about how we can make this club successful and there is no doubt that he wants to do that.”
Asked if he had any certainty about Kane’s future, he was coy: “I don’t have any certainty and I’m not going to look forward to it. I’m focusing on what I know now, and he’s one of the players,” he said, “I don’t think it’s my role to treat players in a particular way because of their situation. I think it’s important to treat every player the same.”
Postecoglou took charge of Scottish side Celtic two years ago, winning a double in his first year and a Scottish treble in his second. Tottenham finished eighth in the English Premier League last season after a tumultuous season that saw the departure of manager Antonio Conte.
He added: “What I know now is that Kane is part of this squad and I look forward to him coming back and being part of it. “Ultimately, that’s what makes us successful, that’s what makes us build a team in a certain way, and if we spend too much time worrying about him, it makes it harder to build a team. I’m not going to miss this early opportunity to establish something that’s important for the long term. It goes beyond the individual. There’s an overriding philosophy of who we are. 메이저토토사이트 I want to be a team and a key player in that.”
Tottenham have not won a trophy since winning the League Cup in 2008. Postecoglou said: “I want to bring success to Tottenham. I’ve been in charge of teams that have had disappointing seasons. What I value most is building something that will last beyond my tenure. The scenario Tottenham are in right now is my biggest motivation.”
Kane, along with Son, Heung-min Son, and the rest of the squad that played in the A-match last month, are all back in action this week. Tottenham depart for Australia on Thursday for a pre-season tour. In Son’s case, he could join the squad straight away.
