FC Seoul’s ‘Lightning Striker’ Hwang Ui-jo is pleased with his newfound form and continued goalscoring, but is deeply disappointed that his team did not come away with the win.
Hwang Ui-jo broke a 0-0 tie in the 18th round of the Hana OneQ K League 1 2023 against Pohang at Seoul World Cup Stadium on the afternoon of Nov. 11 with a sharp right-footed curling shot into the corner of the net in the 37th minute. However, Seoul faltered in the second half due to a sudden drop in fitness and conceded the equalizer to Ha Chang-rae in the fourth minute of extra time.
Hwang Eui-jo said, “It’s a very disappointing game. We played well for 90 minutes, but it’s a shame that three points turned into one at the end. It’s positive that we have the strength to hold on,” said Hwang.
Hwang Ui-jo exploded for a second straight game after his goal against Incheon in the previous round. For the second game in a row, he split the net with his proprietary winding kick.
Hwang said, “It feels great to score. I tried to hit it as much as possible when I had a chance to shoot, and it went in well,” said Hwang. “But no matter who scored, it’s important to get the three points and keep chasing Ulsan and the top teams.”
Hwang was called up to the national team for the June A match. On his recent ‘form,’ he said, “It’s improved a lot. I’ve been playing more and more, and I’m feeling better. It’s positive,” he said, adding, “I will prepare well for the A-match and try to do better next season.” 먹튀검증
On the competition for the national team striker position with Cho Kyu-sung (Jeonbuk) and Oh Hyun-gyu (Celtic), he said, “There is always competition in the national team. Me, Hyun-gyu, and Kyu-sung learn a lot from each other’s strengths,” he said.
Hwang’s short-term loan deal with Seoul ends at the end of June. He played his last home game today. If he doesn’t sign an extension in the meantime, his farewell game will be the Super Match against Suwon after the A-Match break. Hwang said, “Today could be my last home game. That’s why we prepared more. I’m personally disappointed, but I want to say good job to the players.”
